Markus Baierl (Gemany) "Linientreu" 3/6/2010 - 11/7/2010
Markus Baierl, was born in 1971 and has worked as an architect in berlin, italy and norway. he currently works as a performing artist in norway and brussels.
lines and hatches are pronounced features of baierl's work, visible in all of his creations. his images employ a method whereby a brightened background becomes apparent, line by line, composing the degree of contrast in relation to a darker foreground. this process brings into existence a juxtaposition of colour exploring the connection of foreground with background, and produces a differentiated almost relief-like surface.
the effect created suggests that the images appear somewhere between a woodcarving and a stencil technique. subject matter often places particular emphasis on objects or persons frozen in their motion. baierl utilizes rope in parallel spans for his installations to construct a three dimensional dynamic. thereby the view of the contemplator is directed through a pattern of the space in a series of zigs and zags.
the artist's video work is also occupied with conceptions of lines, exhibiting scrolling road markings, woven spider webs and the condensation trails produced by aeroplanes.
